     Pamela S. Eakins & Gary A. Richwald, 

A public-policy study administered through the UCLA Department of Public Health and Stanford University, funded by the California Department of Health Services. Original monograph prepared for the State of California. Medical outcomes of 10,000 consecutive out-of-hospital births in California. 200 pages.

Pamela Eakins directed research on childbirth at UCLA and Stanford University. She was also the President and Executive Director of an out-of-hospital birth center, The Birth Place, near the Stanford University Medical Center, She helped found and was President of the California Association of Free-Standing  Birth Centers -- which was responsible for legislation on childbirth in California. When Pamela attended the birth of her first grandchild in 2011, she realized all the research she had done on "women-centered birth"  is as applicable today as it ever was.
